An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing Building Services consultancy delivering exceptional mechanical design solutions across prestigious residential developments throughout the UK.
This fully remote position offers the chance to take a leading technical role within a collaborative and ambitious team, overseeing the design and delivery of high-profile projects from concept through to completion. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining technical excellence, developing client relationships, and mentoring engineers while contributing to the continued growth of the business.
This role is ideally suited to an engineer with extensive experience delivering large-scale, high-end residential developments within a Building Services consultancy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design and delivery of multiple building services projects from feasibility through to construction.
- Take technical ownership of projects, ensuring designs are delivered to the highest quality and within programme.
- Design and specify mechanical building services systems, including:
- Heating systems
- Ventilation and air conditioning
- Domestic water services
- Above and below ground drainage
- Renewable and low-carbon technologies
- Produce and review calculations, specifications, technical reports and design documentation.
- Coordinate designs with electrical engineers, architects, structural engineers, contractors and external consultants.
- Manage client relationships and attend design team meetings throughout project delivery.
- Oversee project budgets, resources and programme delivery.
- Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers, providing technical guidance and leadership.
- Ensure designs comply with UK Building Regulations, British Standards and current industry guidance.
- Promote sustainable, energy-efficient and innovative engineering solutions.
- Support business development activities, fee proposals and technical presentations where required.

- High-end residential schemes
- Luxury apartment developments
- Large-scale multi-unit residential projects
- Build-to-Rent developments
- Mixed-use residential-led schemes
- Prime residential refurbishments
- Student accommodation
- Affordable housing developments
Projects frequently involve complex mechanical systems, sustainable design strategies and high-specification developments from planning through to construction.
Previous experience delivering residential building services projects is essential for this role.
About you:
A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
Significant experience within a Building Services consultancy.
- Extensive experience delivering large-scale residential developments.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services design.
- Experience using industry-standard software including Hevacomp, IES VE, Revit and AutoCAD.
- Excellent understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and British Standards.
- Strong leadership, communication and client-facing skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects and mentoring engineering teams.
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards Chartership) would be advantageous
